Dear Volunteer 'שי:
Like every Jewish holiday, Pesach comes once a year. Unlike other holidays however, Pesach seems to require so much more preparation and yet most Jewish people celebrate it! What is it about Pesach that commands so much respect and effort in nearly every Jewish household? Pesach's celebration commemorates our start as a nation. When Jacob's descendants became enslaved to Pharoah they were a family. Yet, the reason for their Exodus from Egypt was that they wished to serve G-d freely. It was their realization that they could not readily express their beliefs or interact with society in a positive manner that signaled them to search for freedom, and so the Jewish nation began.
Friendship Circle began as a small "family" offering support and encouragement to each member. Now as we look back we see that we too have become a, "nation". A nation comprised of nearly 80 branches spanning the globe who recognize that to serve G-d we must see each other's talents and abilities without the shackles of ridicule. Only then are we truly free individuals. And that is why Pesach has found it's special place in every home, because without the freedom to think and feel and be accepted there is no freedom at all.
Wishing you a kosher and healthy Pesach!

"I was taking my special buddy to the planetarium for his birthday. My Mom was driving us, and mid- conversation he brought up the topic of driving and licenses. When he asked me when I'd be getting my license, I said, "in August." He responded, "I'm so proud of you!"
The pride he showed in my success shows me what FC is all about!"

The holiday of Passover is a climax in the history of the Jewish people. Celebrating today, we mark the day when the Jews were freed from the burdens of Pharaoh, and were able to unite as nation. Many of the customs of Passover remind us of the troubles endured in Egypt, but there are many that also show our appreciation for our freedom. Continue...

Freedom in the 21st Century
With Pesach around the corner, we are reminded of the important role freedom
plays in our lives. Though many places in the world today claim to be, "free
countries" there aren’t too many places where everyone is truly accepted for who
they are. Even walking down the street, looks are shot at anyone who appears to
be “different.” Continue... |
