Dear Volunteer 'שי:
In this month we celebrate Pesach, the Holiday during which we left Egypt, a place of hardship and slavery. However, Pesach is not just a commemoration of events of the past, in modern times too, we celebrate a Holiday focused on overcoming our own personal limitations. We too are slaves. We enslave ourselves through our fears, discomforts, habits, doubts, and prejudices. Our "pharaohs", or layers of ego, control who we are, limit our progress and prevent us from expressing our true selves. Then, "we were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt" now, "we are slaves to our egos, stuck in our personal limitations." Pesach, the "Holiday of Freedom", is our opportunity to go beyond our "comfort zone", to push back our limits, to break out of our personal slavery, and become free. This makes us more genuine individuals, more dynamic people...and better volunteers!
As Friendship Circle volunteers, we pride ourselves in our ability to look beyond the external limitations of others and see them for who they really are. Now we must work to do the same for ourselves, so that we can take this "Message of Pesach" to others still restricted by their own self-interest, routine, and indifference and "Make the WORLD a Friendship Circle".
Wishing you a Happy Pesach and much success!
